Urunga Placemaking Consultation
As a grant recipient of NSW Industry’s Future Towns Program, Bellingen Shire Council engaged Creative Road to undertake a comprehensive consultation process to gauge community interest and ideas for a placemaking project in Urunga’s town centre.
Creative Road has broad skills experience in community cultural development, landscape design, cultural tourism, public art delivery and the design of urban infrastructure. Previous experience in developing the Bellingen Shire Public Art Plan also meant Creative Road came to this project with an in depth understanding of the region and the township of Urunga.
Called Yarning about Urunga, Creative Road created a drop in conversation hub within a pop-up gallery space on Urunga’s main street. To create public interest and attention, artist Brentyn Lugnan was engaged to deliver a live site specific temporary artwork on the front window of the gallery. A temporary interactive artwork was also created by artist Nick Warfield which gauged community interest in a wide range of placemaking initiatives in a fun and engaging way.
