Dja Dja Wurrung Djaroon + Healthy Country Healthy People by Jida Gulpilil
Bendigo Hospital, Bendigo VIC
In collaboration with Dja Dja Wurrung Aboriginal Clans Corporation (DDWCC), Creative Road facilitated a workshop with local indigenous artists to outline project objectives and answer questions. Interested artists were then assisted in developing site specific artwork concepts for each of the sites within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) department.
Creative Road oversaw Artist Jida Gulpilil’s selection by a specially convened panel and worked with him over several months to translate his painting into integrated wall graphics and oversee the fabrication and installation of a handmade possum skin cloak.

The Mootchung (wattle seed pod design) represented reflects the practice of seasonal food cycle collection and movement that is high in protein and can be cooked or eaten raw like green peas. The wood of the tree is used to make the implements for hunting and gathering other bush-foods and medicinal plants that build strength and connection to country.
Healthy Country Healthy People by Jida Gulpilil
The Loddon floodplains, creeks and waterways throughout Dja Dja Wurrung – Central Victoria represents an essential part of country and culture for our people’s health and wellbeing. Through seasonal food cycles which require our spiritual and physical presence, we collect native fish, mussels and freshwater crayfish.

“Our belief which has been passed down over 2000 generations is that our spirits and physical presence were created to encourage and support all peoples health and wellbeing, through health support, education, mutual respect and understanding; we should never disconnected from that objective as a universal community”Jida Gulpilil
