Billy Buttons

Matthew Harding, Bloom Residential Estate VIC

In collaboration with Landsite Landscape Architecture, Creative Road worked with artist, client and local government to create this iconic sculptural gateway feature for the Bloom Residential Estate in Melbourne. The artwork comprises twelve elements fabricated from stainless steel, aluminium and measuring up to 6 metres in height.

“Billy Buttons draw inspiration from the form, colour and character of the Grey Billy-button (Craspedia canens), an endangered and native flower specific to the Clyde North locality. The appealing characteristic of the Billy-button is its sphere flower head with a distinct geometric form, a form that makes it an inspiration for sculptural interpretation and may serve as a metaphor for growth, both the natural and built environment, and for human connectivity.”
