Michael Purdy creates artworks using the material he grew up with – Sydney sandstone. His remarkable stone carving technique is unsurpassed in Australia and a sense of humour is often prevalent in his work.
Purdy is recipient of multiple awards including Sculpture by the Sea’s inaugural Sculpture Inside Curators’ Prize; Andrea Stretton Memorial Invitation to Cottesloe 2009 and Allens Arthur Robinson People’s Choice Award 2005.
His works are in many private collections as well as public spaces and corporate interiors. Recent large commissions include Steel Restaurant, Sydney; The Argyle nightclub, The Rocks and Sydney Seafood School at Darling Harbour.
