Creative Road is working with acclaimed textile artist Hannah Gartside to create her first permanent public artwork, translating her textile practice into a permanent large scale sculpture.

Hannah's work has earned national recognition, including the 2024 Woollahra Small Sculpture Award and the Richard Parker Award at the Melbourne Art Fair. In 2025 she was named a Samstag Scholar and is currently studying in Amsterdam. Her background in fashion and costume-making shapes her practice, transforming found and gifted materials into tactile sculptures that speak to memory, tenderness and connection.

Creative Road is providing curatorial direction and project management, working closely with Hannah to bring the artwork to life.

Creative Road is working with Wollongong City Council on a major interior artwork for the FJC designed Southern Suburbs Community Centre and Library in Warrawong. The work will span three storeys of the building's central atrium, becoming a defining centerpiece for this important new community facility.

The artwork brief requires artists to respond to the cultural diversity and rich community life of Wollongong's Southern Suburbs, to create a sense of welcome and belonging for the diverse groups who will use the centre.

Spanning the full height of the atrium wall, the work will be visible from the ground floor and each upper landing, shifting in character as visitors move through the building.

Creative Road proposed a broad range of artists for the commission, with two shortlisted to prepare concepts which were recently presented to Council’s Public Art Advisory Group.

Creative Road has been working with Sydney-based artist Michaela Gleave on a commission for a prominent Canberra institution. Gleave's practice spans installation, sound, performance, video, sculpture, and digital works, grounded in long-form research that moves across art, science, and philosophy. Her work makes visible the forces, systems, and durations that ordinarily operate beyond human perception.

To realise this ambitious permanent installation, we have assembled a multidisciplinary team including a soprano, sound engineers, bespoke furniture makers, and theatrical lighting and exhibition designers. More details to come!

The Spaces makes the case for embedding public art and curatorial thinking into property development from day one. When art is approached as a late add-on, it can feel disconnected from its surroundings. When embedded from the start, a narrative can be shaped that links the artist, building and community.

When the River Becomes a Public Square

The Floating Stage for MuyunaFest was built by Espacio Común Association together with local builders, many of them boat makers accustomed to building in fluctuating water conditions and whose empirical knowledge guided decisions around flotation, balance, and anchoring. Following the festival, the structure temporarily remained in place, continuing to serve as a floating plaza, open-air classroom, and dock for the adjacent school.
