We've launched a new website - a clearer, more current home for our practice that reflects the breadth of work we deliver across Australia and internationally.

The homepage opens with a short film drawing from a cross-section of projects, giving a quick sense of the range of work we do. From there, it's easier to explore individual projects and understand the services we offer, from early strategy and artist selection through to commissioning, fabrication, and delivery.

BENEATH THE NIGHT BY SHIREEN TAWEEL

Shortlisted concept proposal, St Georges Hospital

Beneath The Night was a proposed entry artwork for St Georges Hospital, developed by Creative Road in collaboration with artist Shireen Taweel.

The concept brought together five hand-pierced copper bands, a sandstone wall relief, and a circular moving image screen. Drawing on traditions of celestial navigation and sacred space architecture, the design responded to the hospital as a place of science, regeneration, and healing.

The copper bands referenced the astrolabe, an ancient instrument used to measure time and map the sky. Sandstone anchored the work materially, while a circular screen at the centre played footage Taweel captured in the Warrumbungle National Park, cycling through 24 hours of light, atmosphere, and the natural world. Together, the elements framed the hospital entrance as a threshold for reflection.

This project features in the Unbuilt section of our new website, where we've gathered a handful of shortlisted concepts we're still hoping to see realised one day.

JOSEPH ST PRECINCT ART PROGRAM

Creative Road developed the public art strategy for the Joseph Street Precinct in Lidcombe, and is now working with Cumberland City Council as curatorial lead and project manager on delivery of the approved program.

The program sets a framework for transforming Joseph Street Precinct into a cultural and civic destination, with public art reflecting the precinct's diverse community and supporting its role as a dining and social hub. It draws on community consultation with residents, businesses and cultural groups, using those insights to shape curatorial direction and identify the stories and themes that matter most to the Lidcombe community.

The program will bring together a number of artists across the precinct, and today we're happy to announce the first three: Billy Bain, Jason Phu, and Claudia Nicholson. Each artist brings a distinct voice and practice to the project, and we look forward to sharing more about their work as things progress.

FLUTTER TAKES SHAPE

It’s been a little while since we shared an update on Flutter, Jade Oakley's commission for Caloundra Library. After months in the making we’re happy to report that fabrication is now complete and the artwork is ready to be installed.

The suspended kinetic sculpture is composed of hundreds of strands of hand-painted chains, each one shimmering with the colours and energy of Caloundra’s native parrot species. Alongside the sculpture, more than 160 watercolour and pencil studies made by community members during last year’s workshops have been scanned and animated to form a motion-responsive projection, which will shift and disperse a people move through the entrance atrium.

It’s a piece that has been shaped at every stage by the people around it, from the initial workshops with Sunshine Coast Council and Caloundra Regional Gallery through to the skilled hands now bringing it to life in the studio.

We can’t wait to see it installed. More updated to come as Flutter get’s closer to completion.
