Art Strategy + Public Art Planning

We clarify project aspirations through stakeholder consultation and site analysis, while engaging with communities to understand local values and cultural context. Working collaboratively with design teams, we identify opportunities for site-specific public art and recommend artists based on their suitability to the site, vision, material, capacity, budget, and timeframes. We advise on national and international best practice and guide clients through each stage of the planning process to ensure alignment and clarity.

Curatorial Development

We support artists in developing compelling, context-aware art concepts and present a range of creative directions across medium, scale, lifespan, and budget. Our work includes preparing curatorial materials such as artist briefs, shortlisting criteria, and site briefings, as well as managing artist presentations, selection processes, and judging panels. We also facilitate mentorships and capability-building initiatives, deliver artist-led community engagement tailored to each context, and prepare presentations for clients, stakeholders, and design review panels.

Design Development

We translate concepts into buildable artworks through research and feasibility testing, coordinating prototypes, samples, maquettes, and visualisations. Our role includes developing concepts to meet fabrication, transport, installation, and safety requirements, sourcing specialist contractors such as designers, engineers, fabricators, and installers, and facilitating engineering design and construction documentation. We advise on maintenance and conservation considerations, identify and mitigate safety risks early, and ensure a seamless interface between artist and design team.

Fabrication Management

We provide clear project roles, timelines, and deliverables for artwork realisation, collaborating closely with artists and fabricators to resolve technical challenges. This includes reviewing supplier budgets, monitoring fabrication progress, and keeping clients informed through regular reporting and quality assurance inspections. We coordinate communication between all project partners to ensure delivery is on time, on budget, and true to artistic intent.

Installation Management

We coordinate safe, streamlined installation processes by managing freight, insurance, delivery logistics, and site safety documentation. We liaise with onsite contractors to integrate artworks seamlessly with broader works and prepare artwork assets for use in marketing, media, and interpretation.

Maintenance + Conservation

We provide expert guidance on the long-term care and preservation of artworks, developing practical and context-appropriate maintenance plans. Our team prepares user-friendly manuals for asset management, offers advice on repairs and conservation procedures, and supports decommissioning planning for significant artworks.

Project Documentation + Marketing

We create project summaries and case studies for public and stakeholder audiences, prepare curated image sets, captions, artist statements for media, and deliver documentation that meets government and private-sector reporting requirements. We support award submissions and evaluation reports, collaborate with artists and clients to ensure communications respect cultural sensitivities and artistic intent, and archive key project materials to support legacy and future interpretation.

“The value of public art is measured in social and community impact. The financial case is strong too.

Art can transform a site into a destination and help shape places where people genuinely want to be.”

How We Work

Artist-Led and Collaborative

Creative Road believes the best public art is artist-led. We work transparently and in close collaboration with artists and clients, ensuring creative voices are embedded from concept through to installation. This approach safeguards creative integrity and shared ownership — leading to stronger, more resonant outcomes.

Specialist Team, National Delivery

Creative Road brings together a national team of specialist public art curators and project managers. We work seamlessly across metropolitan and regional Australia, drawing on regular collaborators who understand the diverse cultural, social, and logistical contexts of each location. This approach brings continuity, contextual insight, and proven working relationships to every project.

Practical, End-to-End Expertise

From early strategy through to fabrication and installation, we guide the full lifecycle of public art delivery. Our team is deeply experienced in navigating the creative, technical, and cultural complexities of public art — reducing risk and ensuring high-quality results. Our systems, processes, and collaborative mindset underpin our strong track record of delivering complex projects on time and on budget.

Supporting Artists to Succeed

We work closely with artists to build their capacity in public art. By identifying strengths and offering hands-on support, we create space for confident, ambitious commissions — especially for artists new to large-scale or public work.

Inclusive and Culturally Sensitive

We have a strong record of working with First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) artists and communities to develop respectful, meaningful, and place-based artworks.

We uphold cultural protocols and work in close consultation with Traditional Owners, Elders, and cultural advisors to ensure culturally safe and enduring outcomes.

Independent, Sustainable, and Value-Focused

Creative Road operates independently and draws on a strong national network of fabricators, designers, and suppliers. Our focus is always on quality, value, and lasting impact — delivering artworks that enhance identity, experience, and place.
