JADE OAKLEY
Scribbly Gum
PROJECT: Redevelopment, ACT Law Courts
CLIENT: ACT Government
LOCATION: Canberra, ACT
Scribbly Gum fills the foyer of the ACT Law Courts with a series of whitewashed oak veneer panels, their curved intersecting lines drawn from the distinctive bark patterns of the scribbly gum tree native to the Canberra region. Custom LED lighting animates the work, with points of light moving slowly through the maze of scribbles to suggest time passing, or shadows crossing a landscape.
CREATIVE ROAD managed design development and delivery in close collaboration with Lyons Architecture, Lendlease, and project stakeholders, ensuring the artist's vision was realised within the governance and compliance requirements of a high-traffic civic space.
