Award-winning UK artist Wolfgang Buttress and CREATIVE ROAD were finalists in a major international competition for the City of Melbourne’s Workers Memorial. Our proposal, The Nest, explored themes of remembrance, reflection, and connection—honouring workers lost to injury, illness, or trauma. Developed with Hassell, musician Robert Forster, and writer Don Watson, the concept brought together sculpture, sound, and story to create a place of quiet contemplation. A protective nest symbolised care and interconnection, with visitors encountering layered voices, text, and music within a tactile landscape. The result was a deeply thoughtful concept shaped by an extraordinary creative team.
